Mr Bénédict de Cerjat

Swiss diplomat; former Ambassador of Switzerland to Belgium and Head of the Swiss Mission to NATO

After a temporary mission in Caracas and before taking over his new position as Head of the Americas Division in the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in summer 2016, Ambassador Bénédict de Cerjat has joined the GCSP as a Government Fellow.

From September 2011 to August 2015, Mr. Bénédict de Cerjat was the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Kingdom of Belgium and Head of the Swiss Mission to NATO. Prior to September 2011, he was the Ambassador of Switzerland to Poland and Belarus (2007-2011). From 2004 to 2007, Mr. de Cerjat was the Ambassador of Switzerland to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. 

Previously, Mr. de Cerjat served in different functions at the headquarters of the Swiss Foreign Ministry (1985-1988 and 1996-2000), at the Embassies of Switzerland in Ottawa (1986), Lima (1988-1992), Washington D.C. (2000-2004), and at the Mission of Switzerland to the European Communities, in Brussels (1992-1996).

Born on January 13, 1957, in Bern, Mr. de Cerjat earned a master of law degree at the University of Neuchâtel in 1979. Before joining the Swiss Foreign Ministry, he was the Secretary General of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in France, from 1980 to 1984.
