Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR)
The upcoming training course on Peacebuilding is designed to provide professionals with a comprehensive approach to peacebuilding as both a concept and task. It focuses on human security and the basic human needs of a population in a conflict-ridden area, on protecting and promoting human rights, supporting good governance and the rule of law, democratisation and civil society participation as well as sustainable socioeconomic and ecological development. The course is furthermore designed to enhance the collaboration of a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including governments, civil society, the private sector, international institutions and agencies and international non-governmental organisations using a coherent, coordinated and complementary (3C) approach.
The aim of the course is to provide participants with:
• a comprehensive peacebuilding approach as basis for their engagement in peacebuilding activities,
• skills regarding the planning, implementing, and assessing of major peacebuilding tasks,
• strategies for collaboration with other stakeholders from the various segments of the peacebuilding arena.
It is organized by the ASPR in collaboration with the Austrian Ministry of Defence and Sports and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) in the framework of the Academic Programme of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC).
Course Participants will come predominantly from EU institutions, its member states, and EU candidate countries. Nominees should be working for governmental or non-governmental institutions/organisations engaged in conflict prevention, crisis management, humanitarian aid, or development cooperation at the strategic level.
A grant from the Austrian Ministry of Defence and Sports will cover all course related expenses. Participants only have to pay for their international/local travel as well as for full-board accommodation at the local Hotel and Conference Centre “Hotel Burg Schlaining”.
