Organised by the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York, together with the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations and the GCSP.
Co-hosted by the Government of Switzerland and the United Nations, the Geneva Conference on Preventing Violent Extremism – The Way Forward took place on April 7-8, 2016 in Geneva. It brought together Member States, international and regional organisations, United Nations Agencies, and civil society organisations. Building upon the Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, the conference provided an opportunity to share experiences and best practices on key issues related to the prevention of extreme violence.
In the wake of this important gathering, we must now take action to make the Secretary General's vision a reality. This event provides an occasion to discuss one of the greatest challenges of our time and will touch upon key issues, such as: How does protection of human rights contribute to preventing violent extremism? How to develop prevention policies at the local and community level? How to empower youth to prevent violent extremism? How to address online radicalization and strengthened strategic communication? How to mobilize the necessary resources?
The distinguished panel will provide their analysis on what needs to be done at the international, national and local levels to effectively prevent violent extremism.
