    Zermatt Roundtable on Current Security Issues in the North Pacific Region

    The Roundtable on Current Security Issues in North Pacific Region took place from 26 to 28 September 2012 in Zermatt, Switzerland. The event, co-organized by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), gathered prominent independent experts and officials representatives from China, the US, Japan, and Russia. The participants exchanged in depth views and analysis on the following issues: power shifts and regional stability in the Asia – Pacific in the context of raising Asia and new challenges to the regional security order; the challenges and opportunities of maritime issues against a backdrop of raising sovereignty disputes and competition for energy and life resources; the effects of Korean Peninsula issues on regional stability; and the question of a security architecture for Asia – Pacific in the context of a fragmentation of regional institutions and mechanisms.
