Dr Sibylle Lang joined the GCSP Regional Development Programme as a Doctoral Fellow with a project on Bridging the Science - Policy Gap in International Conflict and Crisis Management in January 2016. She has worked for several UN organizations (Drug Control Programme and UNESCO) and think tanks/consultancies in the fields of development and peace-building with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa before joining the Military Policy and Arms Control branch of the German Ministry of Defence in Berlin as an expert on European Security and Defence Policy. There, her focus lies on conflict and mission analysis, capability development, and training for military staff as well as international military cooperation and she has been Director of International Business Development for the past couple of years.
Dr Lang regularly teaches at the Munich University of the Federal Armed Forces and lectures on defence related topics and, among others, at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College Hamburg. She holds a Ph.D. in international politics from the Helmut-Schmidt-University in Hamburg and a master’s degree in political science, North American studies and intercultural communication from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. A German national, she speaks German, English, French and a bit of Spanish.
