President of Niger’s Haute Autorité à la Consolidation de la Paix (HACP)

Since 2013, Colonel Major Mahamadou Abou Tarka has served as the President of Niger’s Haute Autorité à la Consolidation de la Paix (HACP), a key player in maintaining dialogue between the government and communities and an institution recognized to have played an important role in the country’s stability. He brought to the HACP 20 years of experience in peacebuilding having worked for the United Nations peace operations in Sierra Leone, Saudi Arabia, New York, and Afghanistan. Under his leadership, Niger and the HACP addressed many critical peace challenges including the events in Northern Mali, the regime change in Libya and the destabilizing effects of Boko Haram in the eastern part of the country.
