Representative of Rotary International to the International Organisations of Geneva
After completing his studies and PhD at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Walter Gyger joined the Swiss Foreign Service in 1974. After assignments in Iran, Geneva, Paris and Bonn, he was called back to Bern, where he served as Deputy Director for international Organizations in Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1991, the Swiss Federal Council nominated Walter Gyger as Ambassador to Senegal, Mali, Kap Verden, Guinea Bissau and Gambia, in 1994 as Head of the Swiss Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva. In 1999, the Swiss Government delegated Walter Gyger as Ambassador to India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan, in 2004 as Ambassador to Turkey and in 2009 to the Russian Federation. Since 2015 he is representing Rotary international to the international Organisations in Geneva.
