Mr Bruno Pellaud


Honorary President of the Swiss Nuclear Forum

Mr Bruno Pellaud is a physicist from Switzerland, served from 1993 to 1999 as Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna and Head of the Department of Safeguards. He oversaw the strengthening of the safeguards system that led to the adoption of the Additional Protocol in 1997. He dealt extensively with the difficult North-Korean and Iranian issues, as well as the more satisfactory cases of South Africa, Argentina and Brazil. Since leaving the IAEA, M. Pellaud has maintained a keen interest for nuclear energy and non-proliferation. From 2001 to 2009, he was President of the Swiss Nuclear Forum, the main nuclear energy association of the country. In 2004-2005, he chaired the international group of experts brought together by the IAEA Director General to investigate "Multilateral Nuclear Arrangements" for the fuel cycle. He is a frequent lecturer on proliferation issues at the World Nuclear University and in various academic and political circles. He is a Non-Resident Associate of The Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs of Princeton University.
