Dr Maeve Ryan


Co-ordinator of Development for the Forum on Geopolitics

Dr Maeve Ryan is the Co-ordinator of Development for the Forum on Geopolitics (www.coggs.polis.cam.ac.uk), and a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow at the University of Leicester, working on a project entitled ‘The British Empire and the Geopolitics of Human Rights in the Nineteenth Century’.Her broad area of specialization is nineteenth-century British imperial history, with a specific interest in political, diplomatic and legal histores of humanitarian intervention, and in sub-Saharan Africa, Cuba, the East- and West-African slave trades, and their legacies.

She holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge. As a co-founder of the multi-institutional Forum on Geopolitics, she has a particular interest in developing research projects and collaborations that connect academics with practitioners, and help to drive more informed public debate on the most urgent humanitarian issues and the key challenges within contemporary foreign policy and international relations.
