Senior Programme Advisor, Regional Development Programme; Defence and Diplomacy Cluster Responsible
Colonel Urs Amiet is head of the Defence and Diplomacy cluster and Course Director for the Defense Attaché training modules. He is a Regular Officer and seconded from the Swiss Armed Forces.
Following a degree in Civil Engineering, he graduated from the Swiss Military Academy. After various functions in Switzerland and abroad, he became a Battalion Commander. One of his areas of expertise is civil-military relations. His last appointment was at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), where he acted as the Head of Emergency Response.
He has more than 20 years of international experience in different positions and projects such as the FDFA, the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) and with a NGO. For the last 15 years, he was deployed by the Swiss FDFA in several calamities around the world and was also tasked with assisting partner organisations by improving their national and/or international response organisation. As a senior Expert, he was a permanent member of the UN INSARAG training working group and has directed two UN Simulation Exercises in Lucerne, Switzerland.
In his current position at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP), he is Senior Programme Advisor dealing with Civil-Military Relations (CIMIR).
He is a Swiss national; his mother tongue is German and he is proficient in French and English.
