Arms Trade, Peacebuilding, and the Importance of the ATT

In an interview by the Bulan Institute, Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) Senior Programme Advisor and Arms Proliferation Cluster Leader Mr Marc Finaud outlined the nuances of global arms trade today and how it had changed over the last ten years.

Mr Finaud highlighted the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), specifically its regulations on how countries export arms, as a means to prevent war crimes and mass violations of human rights. He regards the ATT as a huge success of the international legal community, as it is responsible for the norms currently in place and it provided the first international legal instrument to constrain the actions of such exporting countries.

The GCSP will host a course on Building Capacity for the Effective Implementation of the ATT on 3-7 April.
