On 10 February 2016, the GCSP and the Centre for International Studies & Diplomacy (CISD) at SOAS University of London hosted a Briefing Session on “Comprehensive Approaches to Disarmament in the 21st Century”.
This was an opportunity to discuss the experts’ contributions to a research project conducted by CISD entitled “Strategic Concept for Removal of Arms and Proliferation” (SCRAP). In this framework, a detailed analysis was made of the relationship between disarmament and a number of issues that are usually ignored in the disarmament debate such as legal and socio-economic dynamics as well as more traditional dynamics of strategic stability and security.
The meeting was attended by a cross-section of International Geneva, composed of governmental and non-governmental representatives.
The speakers were: Dr Dan Plesch, Director of CISD; Amb. Batsanov, Director of Pugwash Office in Geneva; Ms Timothea Horn, Doctoral Fellow at GCSP; Mr Alyn Ware, Coordinator of Parliamentarians for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (PNND); and Mr Marc Finaud, Senior Programme Advisor, Emerging Security Challenges Programme, at GCSP.
