GCSP and SIPRI Host Event on Cooperation and Assistance with Implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)

On 8 July 2015, on the occasion of the Geneva Preparatory Meeting of the Conference of States Parties of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), the GCSP and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) jointly hosted a side event dedicated to the provisions of the Treaty regarding International Cooperation and Assistance (art. 15 and 16).

On 8 July 2015, on the occasion of the Geneva Preparatory Meeting of the Conference of States Parties of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), the GCSP and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) jointly hosted a side event dedicated to the provisions of the Treaty regarding International Cooperation and Assistance (art. 15 and 16).

Mr Marc Finaud, GCSP Senior Programme Advisor of the Emerging Security Challenges Programme, reported on the experience gained by the ATT Network as a multi-stakeholder platform that allowed information sharing and capacity building and could inspire the work of the future ATT Secretariat.

Other panellists from Germany, Jamaica, Ghana, the Philippines and Sweden as well as UNIDIR discussed existing or possible contributions by States Parties or international organizations to coordinated cooperation and assistance for implementation of the Treaty in response to the needs of States and taking into consideration the role of civil society.
