On 24 February 2016, the GCSP and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Indonesia co-hosted the inaugural ‘Jakarta Workshop on Cooperative Security’.
The Workshop was supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Switzerland in Jakarta. This 1.5 track dialogue was the first of its kind in bringing together European and Asian officials and experts to advance inter-regional security policy dialogue.
The Workshop was attended by a distinguished group of policy officials and academics from ASEAN, the EU, OSCE, and various think tanks and government agencies in Southeast Asia.
Speakers included Professor Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Office of the Vice President, Indonesia, Ambassador Yvonne Baumann, Ambassador of Switzerland to Indonesia, Dr Phillips J. Vermonte, Executive Director of CSIS, Professor François Heisbourg, Chairman of GCSP, Professor Joseph Liow, Dean, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore, and Dr Carl Ungerer, Head of the Leadership, Crisis and Conflict Management Programme at GCSP.
The meeting focused on the broad range of geostrategic challenges facing both European and Asian security communities, and identified practical areas of future cooperation including strengthening preventive diplomacy mechanisms and peace building processes.
