Professor Mohamedou addresses the terrorism-criminality nexus at the University of Milan

GCSP Deputy Director Mohammed-Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou was invited to address the Masters students of the Department of Political Science of the University of Milan. His lecture, entitled "Beyond the Nexus: Making Sense of the Terrorism-Crime Interface” analysed the dynamics of contemporary terrorism and criminality - focusing on the ways in which new actors are merging while still maintaining their respective characteristics. Presenting several case studies, he reflected on the behaviour of a number of groups around the world - powerful cartels in Latin America, groups in the Sahel, in West Africa, and in East Africa - and how they project their violence as such. In conclusion, Professor Mohamedou addressed the implications of this evolving scene in terms of policy implications.
