"Eliminating Nuclear Threats: A Practical Agenda for Global Policymakers"
Report Presentation, 1 February 2010
On 1 February 2010, the GCSP hosted a report presentation on “Eliminating Nuclear Threats: A Practical Agenda for Global Policymakers” by Professor the Honourable Gareth Evans, former Australian Foreign Minister and Co-Chair of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (ICNND). After opening remarks by Professor François Heisbourg, Director of the Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique and Chairman of the GCSP Foundation Council, Professor Evans began by stressing that the international community cannot remain complacent in the risks involved with the status quo. With what is now known, it is only by sheer luck that a nuclear military catastrophe has been avoided.
International Policy Workshop on "The Safety and Security of Biotechnology"

On 25 June 2009, the GCSP co-hosted an International Policy Workshop on "The Safety and Security of Biotechnology" jointly with the Managing Global Insecurity (MGI) Project, consisting of Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), the Brookings Institution, and the New York University's Center on International Cooperation (CIC), with the support of the Governments of Norway and Switzerland.
Ambassador Dr. Fred Tanner and Dr Gustav Lindstrom Address the Conference on Disarmament, 28 May 2009
On 28 May 2009, for the first time in the history of the Conference on Disarmament (CD), civil society representatives and NGOs were invited to address the distinguished delegates of the Conference in Geneva. It was a tremendous honour that the GCSP was amongst this select group of NGOs.
Seminar on Disarmament, Conventional Arms Regulation and Globalisation, 9 July 2008
On 9 July 2008, the GCSP hosted a seminar on the topic: "Disarmament and Globalisation: How Can International and Regional Conventional Arms Regulation Efforts Help in Achieving Stability and Security?". This event was organised jointly with the Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD) of the London University School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).
Seminar on International Sanctions and Non-Proliferation, 1 July 2008
On 1 July 2008 , the GCSP hosted a seminar on the topic: "Are International Sanctions an Effective Instrument for the Non-proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction". This event was organised jointly with the French Centre for International Security and Arms Control Studies (CESIM) and supported by the Policy Planning Staff (Centre d'Analyse et de Prévision) of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Workshop on Missile Defence Systems, 13-14 May 2008
On 13 and 14 May 2008, the GCSP hosted a workshop on Missile Defence Systems, which was supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. A range of experts, officials and academics contributed to the policy discussion about current and future issues related to missile defence systems.
Non-Compliance with Disarmament and Non-proliferation Agreements: Lessons Learnt and Ways Forward

On 20 April 2007, the GCSP organised an international seminar on "Non-Compliance with Disarmament and Non-proliferation Agreements: Lessons Learnt and Ways Forward". This event took place on the occasion of a working meeting of the International Expert Group on Global Security (IEGGS), hosted by the GCSP from 18 to 25 April 2007.

Brainstorming sessions for Ambassadors to Conference on Disarmament

The GCSP has organised two informal brainstorming sessions for a number of Ambassadors to the Geneva-based Conference on Disarmament (CD). The first session was held on Friday 27 January 2006 and the second one on Friday 10 February 2006.
Workshop on Prospects for International Cooperation in Bio-safety, Bio-security and Bio-materials Control

On 9 September 2005, the GCSP in cooperation with the Moscow-based PIR Centre, organised a workshop on bio-security and bio-safety. The objective of the workshop was to discuss possible avenues of cooperation between Switzerland and Russia in these fields, in particular with regard to converting the Russian bio-security complex to peaceful purposes.

Burk reiterated the Obama Administration's strong commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and outlined the way forward to a successful NPT Review Conference at a GCSP Public Discussion on 12 August 2009.
