E-learning
The GCSP is as training institution actively engaged in advanced distance learning (ADL). We offer e-learning courses not only as simple distant learning modules but also in combination with resident courses. Our e-learning activities profit from close collaboration with the PfP Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes.
The GCSP follows the principle of “blended learning” which combines the virtual classroom with the real classroom at different levels. Disposing of these two teaching concepts in parallel, they can be arranged according to the needs. Our main objective is to combine traditional resident teaching with distant learning which allows for more individualized learning. This means that e-learning can be adapted to students’ personal needs at a timely flexible pace. From a more technical point of view, the combining of different learning elements, such as text, pictures, graphics, maps, audio and visual elements, can enhance the attractiveness of studying a course topic by diversifying the study process. Further on, electronic resources can easily be updated, which proves to be most valuable in a world of steady changes where accurate knowledge is of great importance.
Currently, we are using e-learning as supportive modules for resident training courses, as preparative modules for resident training courses, as pure e-learning courses and in addition, as a platform for our alumni network.
With regard to technical aspects, the GCSP collaborates with the International Relations and Security Network of the Center for Security Studies in Zurich which provides the Learning Management System (LMS) as a platform for e-learning.
