GCSP Seminar in Armenia
18 - 22 October 2004

From 18 to 22 October, the GCSP conducted a Security Policy Training Course in Yerevan (Republic of Armenia). Mid-career professionals to high ranking participants were drawn from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the National Security Administration. The course was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Baku, Azerbaijan
12 - 16 July 2004

On 16 July 2004, the GCSP completed a week-long training course in Baku on security policy for 26 mid-career and junior professionals from the Azerbaijani Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Defence, National Security and from the presidential administration. GCSP faculty members from Geneva and guest speakers addressed a numbers of security issues ranging from global challenges post 9/11 to regional security matters.

The Baku Security Course provided the participants with intensive training in select areas of international security policy, Euro-Atlantic institutions, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, illicit trafficking, human security, and the implications of frozen conflicts for the security of the Southern Caucasus . The main objective was to explore the interface of regional security dynamics with new and emerging security challenges and to discuss the ramifications for the Southern Caucasus . Training in negotiation skills as well as practical and concrete exercises on national security concept were important elements of the course.

The cooperation of Azerbaijan 's Ministry of Foreign Affairs ensured the success of this fourth training activity of GCSP outside of Geneva.
