Nuclear Power Generation Workshop

The Gulf Research Center (GRC) and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), have jointly organised, with the participation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), an Executive Learning Programme (workshop) on Nuclear Power Generation for Oil and Gas Producing Countries. The workshop took place in Geneva on 4 - 6 July 2007.

The member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council have recently decided to examine the potential of undertaking various forms of peaceful exploitation of nuclear energy. Until recently, the subject of nuclear energy has attracted little interest in the GCC countries, and institutional knowledge of nuclear issues and debates remains limited. In order to offer an opportunity to improve their understanding and awareness of these issues and debates, the Gulf Research Center and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy are hosting a workshop primarily geared towards high-ranking functionaries from relevant ministries of the GCC member countries and related research agencies, but also national oil and electricity companies.
