Disability Inclusion Coordinator, International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement/Finnish Red Cross
Mina Mojtahedi, (PhD, Nutritional Sciences), is an international expert in human rights of persons with disabilities.
Mina currently works for the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement as Disability Inclusion Coordinator in Geneva, with the focus on promoting inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian contexts, both in diversity of the humanitarian workforce as well as in ensuring access of persons with disabilities to humanitarian services. Prior to her work for the Red Cross, Mina worked for Threshold Association, a Finnish disabled people’s organization, were she managed disability rights projects in developing countries, including Central Asian countries, the Balkans and Ethiopia. In addition she has been a consultant in disability rights for UNICEF and Abilis Consulting.
Mina’s background is in Nutritional Sciences and in sports. She completed her doctoral degree at the University of Illinois, USA, in weight management and body composition. At the University of Illinois she also played intercollegiate wheelchair basketball and won three US National Championships. After graduation from the university, she was offered a professional contract to play wheelchair basketball in Germany where she won the Bundesliga and European Champions Cup. Since ending her athletics career, Mina continues to actively contribute to sports as a coach and President of Finland’s Paralympic Committee.
