Programme Analyst at the UN Environment’s Europe Office
Leila Urekenova is a Programme Analyst at the UN Environment’s Europe Office, where she has been involved with the management of a portfolio of projects in the European region since 2011.
She coordinates the work of the Geneva Science-Policy Platform on Environment and Security, a forum which brings together scientists and policymakers in search of innovative solutions to address the environment and security nexus, and use environmental cooperation as a tool for peacebuilding.
Leila graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO-University) with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. She went on to complete her Master’s and PhD degrees in International Law at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.
Leila has contributed to a number of academic fora on various aspects of international law, environmental governance, and conflict resolution.
