Mrs Jutta Urpilainen


Former Deputy Prime Minister, Finland


Mrs Jutta Urpilainen is a centre-left political leader from the Parliament of Finland. During her political career, she has been active especially in economic policy and international affairs as well as a strong advocate of European integration, human security, sustainable development and tax justice.

Mrs Urpilainen has served as a Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Finland (2011-14), and thus as a member of the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy, a member of the ECOFIN Council and Euro-group and a governor of the World Bank/IMF. She has been a member of the Parliament of Finland since 2003 and the first female Chairperson of the Social Democratic Party in Finland (2008-2014). She has participated in many UN conferences. Currently, she is the Chairperson of the Finnish delegation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament and a member of the Parliamentary Supervisory Council of the Bank of Finland. Mrs. Urpilainen holds a Master's degree in Education (University of Jyväskylä) and chairs the Finnish National Commission for UNESCO.
