swisspeace Mediation Program Officer
Course Co-Director, Mr Mathias Zeller,is a Mediation Program Officer at swisspeace where his main responsibilities are supporting third party mediation and conducting applied research on issues related to peace mediation. His primary focus is on security, including ceasefire negotiations, and on questions related to normative frameworks in mediation. As part of a mediation training program he helped develop, he spent three months (July-September 2013) with the Mediation Support Unit of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs in New York. Before joining swisspeace in July 2012, he interned with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (August 2011 - June 2012), supporting the mediation desk and the peace policy programs in Indonesia and Thailand. Mathias also interned with the United Nations Development Program in New York (May-December 2010), where he worked on Eastern Europe, focusing mainly on EU accession countries. Mathias holds an MA in International Affairs from New York’s Columbia University, where he specialized in international security policy and conflict resolution.
