Britain follows US with ban on electronic devices

The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) Global Risk and Resilience Leader, Dr Jean-Marc Rickli gives his analysis on the recent ban from Britain and the United States on electronic devices on flights from Muslim countries in Middle East. 

Britain has taken the dramatic move to ban laptop computers and tablets from the cabins of planes flying to the UK from six countries, amid fears of a new terror threat. This move was taken after an attempt by the Islamist al-Shabaab group to bring down a jet in Somalia using a laptop bomb.

But Geneva Centre for Security Policy research fellow Dr. Jean-Marc Rickli said that when faced with specific intelligence it was more usual for a global ban to be issued, rather than limiting action to certain countries.
