Malicious Uses of Artificial Intelligence: Is it Time for international Governance?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) first emerged in the early 1950s.

However, advancement in the field has grown exponentially since the early 2010s, and poses security concerns.  In his article for swissfuture magazine, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy’s Dr Jean-Marc Rickli reviews some potential malicious uses of artificial intelligence and then addresses the issue of its governance.

States Dr Rickli, “…current threats related to AI do not stem from the prospects of any artificial general intelligence (AGI) or superintelligence that would go rogue and eradicate humanity, but from the misconceptions and malfunctions of AI applications applied to our daily life as well as from integration failure with different platforms or legacy systems….”
