New U.S. President Will Face a Chaotic World

No matter who wins the United States presidency this evening, GCSP Associate Fellow Dr Waheguru Pal Singh Sidhu fears that the bitter and partisan nature of this election will haunt the next president.

Dr Sidhu outlines the many challenges with which the next American president will have to contend, including a recalcitrant Russia, the global impact of the ongoing conflict in Syria, the acceleration of North Korea's nuclear ambitions, tension brewing in the South and East China Seas, and many more. Unfortunately Dr Sidhu sees challenges for both major potential candidates for the United States presidency based on their positions and approaches. The aftermath of this evening's election will be undoubtedly full of speculation, as the world wonders how the influence of the U.S. will evolve over the next four years.
