On his radio program, “Michael McKay Interviews”, GCSP Executive-in-Residence, Michael McKay conducted an interview with veteran British Diplomat, Sir Peter Marshall, whose experience in diplomacy dates back to 1949.
Once serving in the RAF in World War II and graduating from Cambridge in 1949, Sir Peter Marshall is now regarded as a prominent member of the UK Diplomatic Service, being appointed as Chairman of the Joint Commonwealth Societies Council from 1993 until 2003.
In the first part of the interview, Sir Peter Marshall recounted important events he personally witnessed. He recalled the Berlin blockade, various political alliances as well as other key events from the 1940s until the present. Part two of the interview focused on 23 June 2016 referendum that led to Britain’s decision to exit the European Union.
