Syrian Peace Talks in Geneva

The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) Global Risk and Resilience Leader, Dr Jean-Marc Rickli discusses the future of Syrian peace talks in an article published by Les Temps in Switzerland.

As delegations from Russia, Iran and Turkey continue to meet in Geneva to find a peaceful solution to the conflict, GCSP’s Dr Rickli says that the “the situation in Syria is reminiscent of disintegration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.” He states that thanks to the Dayton agreement in 1995, the international community decided to settle ethnic and religious divisions by imposing peace and offering substantial economic aid. Today, the country remains very divided despite this, and in Syria specifically, there is a conflict that will take generations to solve.
