Two Weeks On: The Humanitarian Impact of the Qatar Crisis

After two weeks of severed diplomatic relations between Qatar and several Arab countries, the situation is beginning to have humanitarian implications.

GCSP Global Risk and Resilience Cluster Leader Jean-Marc Rickli, spoke on the Swiss French Radio (RTS) and said that, if the crisis extends over a longer period of time, it could have a humanitarian impact. Unfortunately, he does not see any signs of de-escalation so far.

Mr Rickli also spoke about the impact of the appointment of a new Saudi Arabian Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, the son of King Salman. This announcement impacts the Gulf crisis and stability in the region, as Mr Rickli believes this announcement will reinforce the positions currently held by Saudi Arabia towards Qatar shown so far.
