From 14-16 December 2016, the GCSP held an executive training course in Berlin for 18 Afghan government officials currently in charge of writing their national strategy on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE).
Dr Christina Schori Liang, Senior Programme Advisor and Senior Fellow at GCSP, designed a three-day-course that put the spotlight on both historical and current manifestations of violent extremism in Afghanistan.
Top experts shared their latest research and insights with the representatives of various branches of the Afghan government including the Office of the National Security Council, the High Peace Council, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs and Ministry of Women Affairs.
Experts discussed the best national, regional and international practices on PVE as well as lessons learned. Speakers also discussed how violent extremism will manifest itself in the future and how best to prepare for it. The group also included UK Government Officials and Coffey International Consultants.
