Countering Violent Extremism in the Media Course in Thailand Concludes

From 26-28 April 2017, Dr Carl Ungerer, Head of the Leadership, Crisis and Conflict Management Programme, and Mr Jean-Paul Rouiller, GCSP Associate Fellow, delivered the 3rd edition of the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) in the Media course in Pattaya, Thailand.

The GCSP conducts this tailor made course regularly for officials from the Thai National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). Besides providing an overview on the global trends in violent extremism and the role of the media, this edition of the course focused on the situation in Southern Thailand as well as on case studies from other countries. It concluded with an exercise on designing a National Action Plan on CVE and the Media.

The 45 participants particularly appreciated the combination of the analysis of the challenges of CVE in the media in Thailand and of examples from abroad, and the emphasis on the role of local communities in CVE.
