GCSP and US National Defense University Co-organize Workshop on WMD in the Middle East

On 17 and 18 April 2018, the GCSP and the Near East and South Asia Center of the US National Defense University jointly organized a restricted workshop on “Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and the Middle East: Challenges and Prospects” in Geneva. This event was attended by a mix of diplomats, academics, and civil society representatives coming from the Middle East and North Africa region or specializing in this region or arms control. Among the topics discussed were:

-        Security challenges in the MENA region

-        WMD programmes and use / Responses

-        Nuclear weapons and a nuclear-weapon free zone

-        Nuclear energy and non-proliferation

-        Chemical and biological weapons

-        Terrorism and WMD

-        The role of external powers: the case of the European Union

-        The way forward
