The Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) is an international foundation established in 1995. It is a centre for executive education, a platform for diplomatic dialogue, a provider of policy advice and an incubator for innovative projects in the field of peace and security. It is supported by a board of 52 member states. The GCSP way endeavours to offer a unique global, impartial, inclusive and independent platform of knowledge and practice of international security affairs. It is located in the “Maison de la paix” at the heart of International Geneva.

One of the projects the GCSP hosts is the International Gender Champions (IGC) Secretariat. The IGC is a leadership network that brings together female & male decision-makers determined to break down gender barriers and make gender equality a working reality in their spheres of influence. The initiative was launched at the Palais des Nations in Geneva in July 2015. The network now numbers over 300 active Champions and 240 Alumni who are the heads of International Organizations, Permanent Missions, and Civil Society Organizations, in Geneva, New York, Vienna, Den Haag, Nairobi and Paris.

Junior Professional Officer

Full-time - 1-year contract
this position is based in Geneva

 

MISSION

This position is key to support Strategic Anticipation Cluster activities and the Global Support Group at the GCSP. The Strategic Anticipation Cluster executes a variety of projects (courses, workshops & conferences, public events, and policy analysis) that encourage a more forward-thinking approach to international security policy. In an uncertain and rapidly changing world, strategic anticipation provides a way to identify alternative futures and explore issue interconnections by employing strategic foresight tools and techniques. The Cluster works with partners around the world in such areas as government, international organisations, and civil society as well as with a network of associated experts. The Global Support Group is a unit that manages the organisation and coordination of courses, events, visits; supports thematic and market research; assists with internal & external communication and reporting activities; and provides overall administrative support at the GCSP.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide excellent project and event coordination and be responsible for the end-to-end customer experience of participants for courses, workshops, and other activities in Geneva, online, and abroad as required.
  2. Plan and prepare course facilities and event materials, including an online learning platform, course reports, and evaluation activities.
  3. Conduct visits, make presentations, and act as a host in partnership with our experienced facilitators.
  4. Conduct both thematic and market research.
  5. Establish and maintain up to date documentation and databases, including using Salesforce.
  6. Pro-actively monitor and contribute to the GCSP website and strategic anticipation marketing (including via social media) & communication (presentations, promotional materials) to ensure accurate, attractive, and high-quality visibility of the strategic anticipation activities.
  7. Prepare updates, reports and contribute to internal communication.
  8. Communicate and coordinate with colleagues, guests and customers in a professional manner that reflects the values and aims of the GCSP. 
  9. Perform other responsibilities (example/ administrative and coordination support) as required in support of realizing the mission of the GCSP’s Strategic Anticipation Cluster and Global Support Group.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A university degree in an area related to international security, international relations, political science, law, other social science, or business or public administration.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant functional experience.
  • Understanding (from academic exposure) or professional experience of strategic foresight and international security OR a strong interest in developing knowledge in this area.
  • An experience in the management of events and/or in a hospitality environment would be a real asset.
  • Experience of using MS Office, online tools, and social media (especially LinkedIn); desirable but not essential is experience of hosting online meetings or workshops, primarily using Zoom (familiarity with other online collaboration tools e.g. MS Teams is also of interest).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Proficiency in French, German or Arabic is desirable.
  • Pride yourself on your excellent, pro-active organisational skills, a customer service mindset and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, partners and customers from diverse professional sectors and cultures; respect for diversity.
  • Ability to work and plan your time autonomously under guidance, solution focused and comfortable highlighting opportunities for improvement.
  • EU or Swiss citizen or holder of a valid Swiss work permit.

 

OUR OFFER

The GCSP offers an interesting junior opportunity in an international working environment with pleasant work conditions. Remuneration is 4’050 CHF per month (gross, before deduction of social security contributions and income tax) on a full-time occupation.
