Assoc Prof Oreste Foppiani
Position(s) Visiting Fellow and Associate Professor of International History & Politics at the European University Institute’s Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies

Oreste Foppiani, is currently Visiting Fellow and Associate Professor of International History & Politics at the European University Institute’s Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies. Since 2009, he has taught International History & Politics at Webster University Geneva, where he chaired its Department of International Relations from 2013 through 2022. He holds a PhD in International History & Politics from the Graduate Institute of International & Development Studies. As a visiting scholar or professor, he researched or taught at New York University’s Centre for European & Mediterranean Studies (CEMS), Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Aoyama Gakuin University’s School of International Politics, Economics and Communication (SIPEC), Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Command & Staff College, and the Catholic University Milan’s Graduate School of Economics & International Relations (ASERI). He authored four monographs and a dozen peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Nuova Rivista Storica, Il Politico, and Relations internationales. Lastly, he is a senior officer in the Italian Navy Reserve’s General Staff Corps. In this capacity, from 2016 through 2020, he served in different roles and functions at the Italian Navy’s Third Department, EUNAVFOR Med Operation Sophia, and the Office of the Italian Defense Attaché in Paris.
