Mr Brian Hyouk Son
Position(s) Ph.D. Candidate in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge and Senior Policy Officer, Australian Government Department of Health

Brian is currently completing a Ph.D. in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom. In general, his academic interests revolve around food security and agriculture, economic development, sustainable development, poverty reduction and social protection. More specifically, Brian focuses on the dimensions and underlying causes of food insecurity and malnutrition in the Asia-Pacific region (with specific focus on Thailand). Brian is also currently a Senior Policy Officer with the Australian Government Department of Health in Canberra, Australia actively contributing on the work of Australia's engagement with the World Health Organization (WHO) on all three-tier levels (international, regional and country-level). Previously, he worked as an intern and Service Contractor at the United Nations Development Programmes (UNDPs) International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) and also worked on providing policy advice on Australia’s ratification of the UN Minamata Convention. Brian holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University and a Graduate Certificate in International Studies from the University of Sydney.
