Mr Gunnar Berkemeier, a German diplomat, has been working at the Permanent Mission of Germany to the United Nations in New York from 2017 until the end of 2020, focusing on UN peace and stabilisation operations and leading Germany’s work on Sudan and Mali in the Security Council. Previously, he worked in the Minister’s Office (speechwriter to the Federal Foreign Minister) and in the Cabinet and Parliament Affairs Division of the Federal Foreign Office, at the German Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN in Geneva. He also worked for the United Nations Development Programme and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. He holds a Diplôme d'études approfondies from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva.
