Mariko’s professional background includes: 1) Coordinator for Economic Cooperation at Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh and the Embassy’s focal point for donor coordination in ODA policy and the Rohingya Refugee response; 2) UNV Community Development Officer at UNICEF Cambodia in charge of monitoring on the community development program; 3) JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer and Community Development Officer in Kenya, managing community communication projects in collaboration with the local Public Health Authority. Mariko’s academic background includes: 1) MA in Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden; 2) MA in International Affairs / International Development, The George Washington University, U.S.A.; 3) BA in Arts, Literature and Sciences, English, Waseda University, Japan; 4) Exchange Program in international Studies, University of Oregon, U.S.A. Mariko’s academic and professional interest is in mediation and negotiation as conflict resolution measures. She would like to pursue effective ways of bringing stakeholders together to discuss and identify common grounds and possible solutions, through diplomacy, international agencies, local actors or other potential channels. Mariko enjoys music (piano, orchestra, violin, chorus), books, cooking, dancing, and meditation.
