Dr Peter Batchelor
Dr Peter Batchelor (South Africa) has recently joined the GCSP as an Associate Fellow. Peter has worked on peace and security and development issues for more than 30 years in government, the UN, academia and think tanks, including in field posts in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Asia Pacific. Most recently between 2019 and 2023 he was head of UNDP’s Crisis Bureau Policy and Engagement team based in New York. Between 2000 and 2004 Peter was the first (and founding) director of the Small Arms Survey project based at the Graduate Institute. During this period, he was also an adjunct faculty member of the GCSP. Peter is an economist by training and has a PhD in economics from the University of Cambridge. Between 1995 and 1999 he was an economic advisor to the Mandela Government in South Africa.
