In an era marked by shifting alliances, strategic rivalries, and renewed geopolitical tensions, the concept of neutrality is being redefined. What does it mean to be neutral today? Is neutrality still a viable foreign policy stance or is it evolving into something more complex?
This Geneva Security Debate will explore the international dimensions of neutrality through different lenses, such as non-alignment, multi-alignment, and positive neutrality. Panelists will examine how states are navigating growing pressures to take sides while maintaining strategic autonomy. The discussion will also reflect on on how neutrality can support global stability and dialogue in a time of heightened geopolitical fragmentation.
This Geneva Security Debate is organised in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan, co-chair of the Group of Friends of Neutrality for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development, and the Geneva Centre for Neutrality.
Opening remarks:
- Ambassador Thomas Greminger, Executive Director, GCSP
- Ambassador Niyazov, Chief Specialist of the Center for Strategic Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan
The Speakers will be confirmed soon.
