Current change to the international order is not merely episodic disruption but structural in nature. Long-standing arrangements that governed diplomatic practice, military posture, and economic interdependence are being remade in ways that are neither linear nor entirely predictable. Numerous dynamics are at work.
What are the main drivers and the most salient issues of strategic change in international peace and security? What are cross-cutting trends and prospects regarding the future? What implications arise for decision- and policymakers today?
This Geneva Security Debate will discuss these issues with top analysts from the Center for Security Studies at ETH Zurich. It will notably focus on how regions and domains are contested, and how this sets the context for states’ strategic choices. The debate will build on the new insights in Strategic Trends 2026, the annual flagship publication of the Center for Security Studies.
