Fred Heiding is a postdoc at the Harvard Kennedy School working on computer security and AI security with Eric Rosenbach and Bruce Schneier. His work aims to quantify and mitigate AI-assisted cyberattacks through technical innovations and policy interventions. Fred is a member of the World Economic Forum's Cybercrime Center and is on the organizing committee of the Harvard and MIT Technology and National Security Conference. He is a teaching fellow for the Generative AI course at Harvard Business School and the National and International Security course at the Harvard Kennedy School. Fred has been repeatedly invited to brief the US Congress on the rising dangers of AI-powered cyberattacks, and leads the cybersecurity division of Harvard’s AI Safety Student Team. His work has been presented at leading conferences, including Black Hat, Defcon, and BSides, leading academic journals like IEEE Access, and outlets like Harvard Business Review, Politico, and Reuters. He has assisted in the discovery of more than 45 critical computer vulnerabilities (CVEs), and is recognized as a leading expert on the dangers of AI-powered phishing by The Economist. In early 2022, Fred got media attention for hacking the King of Sweden and the Swedish European Commissioner.
