Dr Katherine Bassil
Dr. Katherine Bassil is a neuroscientist turned neuroethicist and neuroethics communicator. She has extensive research experience at the intersection of neuroscience, ethics, and communication. Her work is focused on the ethical and societal implications of neuroscience and neurotechnology across different domains including medicine such as neural implants, and direct-to-consumer applications including AI chatbots.
Katherine is an assistant professor in neuroethics at the Julius Center, University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) in the Netherlands. She is a member of the International Neuroethics Society (INS) and invited member of the cross-cultural working group at the International Brain Initiative (IBI). Katherine is the ethics lead of the IEEE Neuroethics Framework Wellness Workgroup, and more recently the co-founder of the Arab Neuroethics Network. She is also the founder of Neuroethics Today, an educational platform dedicated to raising awareness on neuroethics worldwide and democratizing neuroethics literacy. Katherine is the recipient of the 2022-2023 Harvard Neuroethics Fellowship, and the 2024-2025 Niels Stensen Fellwoship.
