Mr Carlos Abellán
Dr. Carlos Abellan stands at the intersection of science, innovation, and entrepreneurship, driving the translation of quantum research into real-world technology. Beginning his career at ICFO, one of Europe’s leading quantum research centers, Abellan played a key role in developing ultra-fast quantum random number generators—work that later became the foundation for his company, Quside. He also spearheaded the Big Bell Test, a global experiment that united over 100,000 participants in testing quantum mechanics, which was later published in Nature.
In 2017, Abellan co-founded Quside with a vision to help secure the privacy and security of global citizens and organizations by turning advanced quantum science into industrial applications. Under his leadership, Quside has grown to over 50 employees and 70 patents. Beyond entrepreneurship, Abellan has been instrumental in shaping Europe’s quantum ecosystem, serving as a founding member of the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC). His work exemplifies how dedicated leadership, research, and collaboration can move quantum innovation into everyday life.
