Profile

Luca Willig joined swisspeace in March 2022 as co-head of the Mediation program. In this position, he oversees the strategic, programmatic, and financial aspects of the swisspeace Mediation program. He runs the Mediation Support Project, a joint venture between swisspeace and the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at the ETH Zürich, funded by Switzerland, and facilitates a track II dialogue process on the Eastern Mediterranean.

Before his current role, he worked as an independent consultant, assisting various institutions in facilitating dialogue initiatives, designing peacebuilding policies and strategies, and integrating conflict analysis and conflict sensitivity in their interventions. Previously, he led Switzerland’s efforts to bolster peace in the Sahel based out of Bamako and coordinated support to mediation and dialogue processes in Central and West Africa with the UN Mediation Support Unit.

Earlier in his career, Luca was a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Afghanistan and the Central African Republic and worked at the headquarters of Médecins Sans Frontières.

He holds degrees in international relations, mediation, and management for the non-profit sector.
