Synthesis Report of Seminar Discussions

In partnership with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA Swiss Expert Pool for Civilian Peacebuilding and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), we were pleased to convene senior leaders from governments, international organisations, academia, civil society, and the private sector for the 2026 Senior Leadership for Peace Seminar: Preparing for the Future in Times of Rupture.

The Global Peace Index 2026 Geneva Launch co-organized with the Institute for Economics & Peace set the scene for the following seminar. The United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights delivered a keynote address on Safeguarding Human Rights in Times of Rupture. Aimed at strengthening leadership for peace, the seminar provided an inclusive space for strategic reflection, systems and future thinking, peer exchange, collective problem solving and leadership development.

Focus was on strengthening the ability to navigate an increasingly complex peace and security landscape shaped by geopolitical fragmentation, rapid technological transformation, the evolution of artificial intelligence, and growing pressures on international norms and institutions.

An outcome seminar report, including key insights, strategic take aways, and short/medium/long term recommendations can be found here.
