Speech: Perspectives on the war in Ukraine and the future of the European security order

On the occasion of a Carl Lutz Lecture at Andrassy University and the Joseph Károlyi Foundation conference entitled “Defence and security policies: Europe at the heart of a transformation”, the GCSP’s Executive Director Ambassador Thomas Greminger gave a speech on Perspectives on the war in Ukraine and the future of the European security order.
 
The ongoing war in Ukraine has seen fluctuating military advancements, is currently in a stalemate. Amb Greminger emphasized the importance of a diplomatic solution, that addresses the security concerns of all parties involved. In order to prevent further escalation and pave the way for a sustainable peace in Europe, he argued that future European security order should contain elements of cooperative security.
