Summary and resolution of the 'Cooperating on Arctic Biodiversity Challenges' meeting

19 March 2026

We are pleased to publish a joint resolution developed following the GCSP High North Talks meeting in December 2025, bringing together Arctic vegetation and biodiversity scientists. The dialogue highlighted the urgent need for strengthened pan-Arctic scientific cooperation in preparation for the Fifth International Polar Year (2032–2033), particularly as Arctic ecosystems undergo rapid transformation with global climate implications. The resolution emphasizes the importance of inclusive collaboration and continued coordinated research and environmental monitoring efforts—recognizing that comprehensive Arctic science requires contributions and data from across the entire region. The discussion was facilitated by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), and the views expressed reflect those of the participating scientists.
