Amb Alexander Hoffet
Position(s) Government Fellow at the GCSP and former Chargé d’affaires a.i., Embassy of Switzerland to the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan

Ambassador Alexander Hoffet has over 30 years’ experience in the Swiss Foreign Service, including postings in bilateral and multilateral missions. Before joining the GCSP’s Global Fellowship Initiative, he worked as Chargé d’affaires in the Swiss Embassy to the Republic of Azerbaijan and to Turkmenistan.

Along his career, he served through different assignments and positions in Asian countries (including China and Vietnam), multilateral missions (including OSCE and the EU). Before this, he worked for five years as Head of Section for Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). His career in the Swiss Foreign Service began with an assignment as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Switzerland in Prague. Beforehand, he worked as Delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Iraq and Southern Africa.

Amb. Hoffet has a background in law (studies at the University of Bern), history and philosophy (University of Basel), he has a diploma in International Relations and a Diploma in International Security Studies from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva. His mother tongue is German and he’s fluent in French, English, and Spanish.
