In a world shocked by geopolitical tensions and rapid digital transformations, the evolution of politics requires young people preparing for political office to have an ever wider range of skills and aptitudes. In order to ensure inclusive and representative governance, it is therefore essential to offer young people many opportunities to get involved in political life, possibly beyond the traditional party framework. As politics becomes an increasingly demanding career, it also requires a system that can attract the candidates best able to represent and serve their communities.
As part of the Geneva Democracy Week, young people, elected representatives and political leadership experts will discuss how best to prepare young people for a career in politics, identify lessons from Switzerland and elsewhere, and offer practical suggestions for ensuring that young people are included in democratic and electoral processes, and that elected representatives are prepared to carry out their duties.
